Al takes a night job cleaning a private investigator’s office and, when a client walks in, declines to correct her. The episode’s ending reveals that the entire opening stretch of season six was Al’s dream — the series’ largest single retcon.
Al, Bud and Kelly go to Hollywood so a network can take Kelly’s public access show national. Jon Lovitz plays the executive producer who retools it beyond recognition. Al spends the trip pitching his own show ideas to anyone who will stand still. Conclusion of two.
The Bundys get cable, and Al discovers his new remote can also control the Darcys’ television. Marcy turns up on public access talking about her marriage, which inspires Kelly to start a show of her own. A Hollywood network comes calling. Part one of two. It is also Matt LeBlanc’s last appearance on the series.
Al falls out of the bedroom window after seeing the twenty-five hundred dollar painting Peg commissioned of herself. He wakes up convinced he has been shown God’s shoes and chosen to sell them. Jefferson handles the business side, using Marcy’s money. Kelly is the only member of the family who takes the revelation seriously.
Buck loses his appetite and the whole family devotes itself to the dog, which leaves a pregnant Peggy ignored enough to move back in with the Wankers. It is the last episode to show Peggy pregnant, and the reasons behind that were real.
Marcy discovers that Jefferson never paid for her storage locker and that her childhood furniture has been auctioned off, so she drags Peg out to find it. Back at the house, Al, Bud and Kelly hold a formal Anti-Baby Meeting with minutes and a roll call.
Kelly starts coming home with large amounts of cash, and Al leaps to the worst possible conclusion about how she is earning it. The truth is that she and Jefferson are hustling pool. Al sells his own blood to get a stake in the next match.
Peggy is pregnant and the household has instituted formal baby meetings, which is where “Hail baby!” comes from. It is also the first appearance of Grandmaster B, and the last appearance of Al’s friend Norris after six seasons.
Al and Jefferson reach their limit with the pregnancies and retreat to a bar called the Paternity Ward, where a vendor sells fake identities to men looking to disappear. Al prices out becoming an ex-football player with a cool name. Conclusion of the two part premiere.
Marcy and Jefferson announce that they are expecting, and Al is delighted at Jefferson’s misfortune right up until Peg tells him the Bundys are expecting too. Al’s hair starts falling out. Part one of the season 6 premiere, and the most-watched episode the series ever aired.
