Matt LeBlanc: The Future Friend Who Started in Our Universe
April 7, 2026
Before the world knew Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani, he was Vinnie Verducci, Kelly Bundy’s impossibly cool, leather-jacket-wearing boyfriend with more hair gel than plans for the future.
Working with Matt back then was awesome. The guy had charisma dripping from every pore, even before he became one of the biggest sitcom stars on earth. He had this natural charm that made him perfect for Vinnie: dumb but smooth, clueless but cute, sweet but hopeless. Basically a teenage Joey prototype if you think about it.
Matt blended into our cast instantly. He had Christina Applegate’s rhythm down, and their chemistry made every Kelly and Vinnie scene shine. The live audience ate him up. Lots of cheers, whistles, and “woooos” every time he walked on stage.
Behind the scenes, Matt was humble, funny, and incredibly focused. He treated every rehearsal like an opportunity to learn. Watching him build a character from scratch was impressive, especially because Vinnie felt so real, like the guy you knew from high school who peaked sophomore year and never realized it.
Fun fact: Matt and Christina had such strong chemistry that Fox tried to launch a Vinnie Verducci spinoff called “Top of the Heap” and later “Vinnie & Bobby.” They didn’t last long, but they show how confident the network was in Matt’s talent.
Seeing him later blow up on Friends was surreal, but not surprising. Everyone who worked with him knew he was going big.
It all started with Kelly Bundy.
