Mark your calendars: The 3rd Bundy Breakdown Zoom Watch Party is happening Thursday, May 14th at 6PM PT. We’ve got the Unsung Heroes of NO MA’AM on Married with Children joining us, Griff, Bob Rooney & Ike!
In the later seasons of the iconic sitcom Married with Children, the show found new life through Al Bundy’s ragtag group of friends fighting back against what they saw as the rising tide of women’s liberation. That group was NO MA’AM (National Organization of Men Against Amazonian Masterhood), and two of its most reliable and hilarious members were Griff and Bob Rooney. These characters brought steady laughs, memorable one-liners, and a perfect blend of loyalty and incompetence that fans still quote today.
If you grew up watching reruns or discovered the show later on streaming, you know how special these supporting players were. They were not just background guys. They helped turn Al’s shoe store complaints and bar rants into full-blown adventures. In this post, we will dive deep into who Griff and Bob Rooney were, their backstories both on the show and in real life, the episodes where they teamed up, and the solo outings that made each one shine. Whether you are a die-hard fan or just curious about the NO MA’AM crew, this one is for you.
Who is Griff? Griff, played by the talented Harold Sylvester, is Al Bundy’s long-suffering coworker at Gary’s Shoes. He joined the cast in season 9 and quickly became one of Al’s closest confidants. On the show, Griff is a divorced man who lost everything in his marriage. His ex-wife took the house, the car, and even his prized Pam Grier movie collection. This leaves him cynical about women but still game for whatever ridiculous plan Al cooks up.
