Lonnie leaves prison and proposes properly, and Al’s objection evaporates once he learns the family fortune involved. The wedding gets as far as the back yard. This is also the episode that became the show’s ending, which nobody involved intended.
Bruce starts suggesting improvements to the Bundy household and loses the family immediately. Al, meanwhile, works his way back in on a series of pretexts. Peggy’s memories of the marriage arrive as a montage pulled from across the whole series.
Al moves into an apartment by the airport and Peggy stays home crying at the home shopping channel. Both of them end up at the same singles bar, where Peggy attracts a wealthy admirer and Al attracts a woman who thinks he is having a heart attack.
Al insults a customer on his birthday and is tied to a chair in the shoe store and tried for Crimes Against Obesity. The prosecution’s evidence is archive footage of things he actually said across ten seasons. Peggy takes the stand to help, which does not help.
The Dodge gets a funeral in the back yard, complete with bagpipes and a folded seat cover. Al leases a replacement that goes badly wrong. Jefferson goes to Cuba for the fuel pump and turns out to be on first-name terms with Fidel Castro.
A deliveryman asks Kelly out to spite his girlfriend, she retaliates with a millionaire, and all four spend the evening at a diner trying to out-jealous each other. Marcy and Jefferson turn up determined to have an authentic neighborhood experience. A spin-off pilot that never sold.
To get Peg’s mother out of the house, Al has to convince Ephraim Wanker he is man enough to take her back, which somehow requires a bear hunt. Al and Bud return with a bear they think is dead. It is hibernating, and it wakes up in the living room.
Bud finally moves out of 9764 Jeopardy Lane, and Al throws a party to celebrate. The independence lasts about a day. The season ten premiere sends Bud to the basement for good and moves Peg’s mother in upstairs, with Tim Conway guesting as Ephraim Wanker.
Bud signs up for a virtual reality study at the university and becomes dependent on it, to the point of boxing up the possessions he no longer needs. Al, meanwhile, has found a light switch that does not seem to do anything, and starts taking the house apart.
